The introduction of stump mics have provided a huge insight, educational and entertaining, into the conversations during play in matches. On Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test, Nitish Reddy was heard advising Mohammed Siraj on how to survive against Nathan Lyon in the off spinner’s first over.

Starting the day with Mohammed Siraj as his last batting partner, Nitish Reddy knew that the onus was on him to score the runs. After Siraj played out a couple of Pat Cummins deliveries in the first over of the day, Reddy handed him the strike with five balls to play against Nathan Lyon. However, he was quick to give the bowler some insight into how to play the offie.

“Miyan Bhai. Off pe khade rehna, bahar ka ball chod do. Ghoome ga nahi. Ghoomega to kuch nahi kar sakte hain. Seedhe ke liye khelo (Siraj. Stand on off stump and leave all the balls outside the line. The ball will not turn. If it turns, then we can’t do too much. Play for the straighter ball),” Reddy was heard telling Siraj.

When Ravi Shastri translated the same for his fellow commentators, everyone started laughing. They were not the only ones as the Twitterati joined in as well.
