There’s no place for silly mistakes in professional sports. Zak Crawley falling prey to his carelessness against West Indies for the second time in the match left the England captain frustrated in the dressing room on the third day of the second Test against West Indies in Nottingham.

The overnight Windies batters find it tough to trail 65 runs in the morning session, losing four quick wickets to Gus Atkinson and Chris Woakes. However, a valiant 71-run stand between Joshua Da Silva and Shamar Joseph steered the visitors to a 41-run lead before England geared up for the third innings. Eyeing to stockpile a fighting total on the board, the hosts incurred an early setback within a couple of overs due to Crawley’s silly mistake after the Lunch break.

Following a four off the first ball of the second over, Ben Duckett faced a couple of dots off Jayden Seales before punching a fuller delivery at the off stump straight down the ground. Crawley, at the non-striker’s end, was a shade early to leave the popping crease and the bowler’s intent to get some hand on the ricocheting ball was successful. In no time, the white cherry clattered onto the non-striker’s end stumps with the decision being referred upstairs. TV umpire Nitin Mennon found that Crawley’s bat was in the air when the ball kissed the stumps and dislodged the bails, paving the way for an unlucky dismissal. Right after, the camera focused on Stokes who was spotted nodding the head in distress with Crawley trudging off the field, owing to his carelessness.

The in-form batter could score just three runs across both the innings of the Test on a batting haven, prompting the Twitterverse into a discussion.
