IND vs SA | Twitter screams F word as Jansen blatantly oversteps for outrageous no-ball

The margin of error on the biggest stages is quite low and the game of cricket flows in a similar route. A huge no-ball from Marco Jansen destroyed the reputation of a brilliant delivery that initially earned the applause of Quinton de Kock as India and South Africa went loggerheads in Barbados.

Choosing to bat first, India suffered early setbacks in the form of Rohit Sharma and Rishab Pant before Suryakumar Yadav followed suit to wrap up a 45-run powerplay. However, Axar Patel and Virat Kohli consolidated a 72-run fourth-wicket stand, stabilising the innings for the lower middle order to carry the baton. With India’s scorecard reading 150/4 in 18 overs, the Proteas unit’s attempt to curb the opposition saw an unprecedented turn of events.

Jansen bowled a brilliant wide yorker against an on-song Kohli on the first over of the 19th over the batter failed to connect on an attempted drive. Quinton de Kock from behind the stumps collected the ball and applauded the bowler’s execution before the TV umpire had a look and asked the on-field umpires to signal a no-ball. In a brief period, de Kock’s applause caved into a moment of despair as the replays showed a gigantic leap over the popping crease from Jansen, resulting in an embarrassing no-ball.

It is quite rare to see such shambolic front-foot no-balls on a big stage. A similar error by Mohammad Amir in the past brought back flashbacks for the Twitterverse.
