Cricket is not just a game of bat and ball but a mental battle fought between two teams. Punjab Kings’ Sam Curran certainly showcased their mental toughness after provoking Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal into a false stroke and drawing first blood to give him a fiery send-off in Guwahati.

During the toss, Rajasthan skipper opted to bat first after winning the toss. But opener, Jaiswal failed to back the decision with a paltry score after hitting a four against Sam Curran in the first over. The bowler found some lateral movement with the hard SG ball and ended up removing him and following up with a red-hot send-off at the batter’s face.

After a fuller ball at the stumps that the left-hander drove back to mid-on, Curran walked up to Jaiswal with a stare on the second ball. Right after, he dragged the length with an out-swinger outside the stumps, and Jaiswal, with minimum front foot movement, ended up chopping the ball on the stumps in an attempt of a drive.

Having failed to judge the movement in the air, Curran had the last laugh despite leaking a four off the first ball and went up to the youngster’s face with a gesture to walk back to the dugout. Also, wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow walked up to Jaiswal when the players were strolling into the field for the match and trying to distract the southpaw’s concentration.

Seeing the mental battle work in favour of Curran and Punjab Kings, the Twitterverse expressed this.
