Being an outstanding fielder requires vigilance in seizing crucial catches and making the most of every opportunity. However, Mark Chapman fell short on the second day of the Test between India and New Zealand, missing a straightforward catch and leaving his team visibly disappointed.

‌After restricting New Zealand to 235, India’s batting unit stumbled, closing the day at 86/4. Resuming on the second day, overnight batters Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant took charge. Pant, in his signature aggressive style, began by smashing three fours in the first over. Gill soon followed suit, and together they lifted the score to 126/4 in 26 overs. However, Gill played an ill-advised shot that nearly ended his innings, only to be saved by a missed catch from Mark Chapman.

On the first ball of the 27th over, Phillips came around the wicket, delivering a full, tossed-up ball. Gill, the Punjab native, stepped down to loft it over long-on but mistimed it, sending the ball high toward cow corner. Chapman sprinted in, eyes fixed on the ball, positioning himself for the catch. Yet, the ball slipped through, landing between his hands and stomach. Phillips was visibly frustrated, and skipper Latham’s disappointment was evident. Fans on Twitter quickly reacted, sharing their thoughts on Chapman’s missed opportunity.

Oh my god!

Easy catch!

He was dropped by terrific player!

Not Philips it was Chapman!

Yeah!

LOL!

Agreed with this!

Sometimes it happens!

Going good so far!

Let him play his game!
