IND vs BAN | Twitter reacts to India’s aggressive show rekindle Kanpur Test amidst 18 wickets on Day 4
India lead by 26 runs after the fourth day in the second Test at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. Impactful knocks from Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli helped India to get 285 runs on the board before Bangladesh lost a couple of wickets to Ravichandran Ashwin at the stroke of Stumps.
Four overs in the second session and Bumrah got Mehidy’s outside edge nicked to the slip cordon, making way for Taijul Islam. Nevertheless, the Bangladeshi tail could not resist India’s bowling heat for long, falling like nine pins to Bumrah, Siraj, and Ravindra Jadeja with 233 runs on board.
India initiated the second innings on a gung-ho note with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma going berserk after the new ball. They piled up 50 runs in just three overs before the skipper was outwitted by Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the next over. Shubman Gill joined Jaiswal’s attacking approach and played second fiddle in a 72-run stand. With India racing to the fastest-ever 100 runs score in the format, a low-kept ball got the better of the Mumbaikar for 72. Then, Rishabh Pant was sent ahead of Virat Kohli and he negated the opposition with Gill until Tea with the score 138/2 in 16 overs.
Bangladesh bowlers pulled the trigger back at the start of the day’s final session with a couple of wickets from Gill and Pant. With India 159/4, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul stabilised the stage with regular boundaries mixed with some unconventional strokes. Amidst the scoring heat, they followed the instructions from the management to keep attacking the bowlers. 200 runs mark came up in just the 25th over with the pair countering the spinners perfectly. Rahul switched gears in quick time and brought up his fifty in 33 balls before Kohli was cleaned up by Shakib for 47. Subsequently, Rahul batted with Jadeja and Ashwin who couldn’t contribute much with the bat in an attempt to attack the bowlers. With India 272/2 in 34 overs, a couple of lusty blows from Akash Deep made way for Rahul’s stumping. Akash holed out in the next over and soon Rohit Sharma enforced a declaration with India leading by 52 runs.
In response, Bangladesh openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam took a defensive approach against Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin, adding 18 runs in six overs before Akash Deep was introduced as the first change. With the ball turning just enough, Ashwin got the better of Zakir in the eighth over before cleaning up nightwatchman Hasan Mahmud in the tenth over. Bangladesh strand at 26/2 in eleven overs as they trailed half the lead India got in the dying moments of the day.
