India beat England by 142 runs in the third ODI before heading to UAE for the forthcoming 2025 Champions Trophy. Shubman Gill’s century and fifties from Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli shadowed Adil Rashid’s four-for as the Men in Blue enforced a whitewash against England in the ODI series.

Winning their third straight toss in the series, England captain Jos Buttler decided to field first in Ahmedabad. Mark Wood backed the decision by drawing Rohit Sharma’s outside edge early in the innings before Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill took control of the innings, pushing  India’s scorecard to 94/1 in 15 overs. Going on, the duo switched gears and brought up their respective fifties. But the introduction of Adil Rashid got the better of Kohli for the eleventh time across formats, allowing Shreyas Iyer to occupy one end of the crease. The pair regularly scored in excess of five runs per over with Gill entering the nervy nineties when the score read 198/2 in 30 overs. Eight balls later, he whipped Mark Wood for a four to notch up his seventh ODI century. Although Rashid outsmarted Gill (112), Iyer (78), and Hardik in regular occasions, the Indian batters kept up with a healthy run rate, reaching 275/4 in 40 overs. Eventually, KL Rahul’s 40 and the tail added 81 runs together in the remaining 50 overs, asking for 357 from the visitors.

Unlike their counterparts, England got off to a blistering start, courtesy of Ben Duckett who peppered the home new ball pacers. He smoked four back-to-back fours in the sixth over, channeling his aggressive play after suffering an injury during the first innings. However, Arshdeep Singh’s mix of pace removed the Three Lions opener in an 84-run powerplay. Tom Banton impressed with reverse sweeps and cross-batted hacks during his 41-ball stay before Kuldeep Yadav got his number in the 18th over. 14 balls later, Axar’s in-drift cleaned up Joe Root, followed by Harshit Rana upsetting Brook and Buttler in his second spell. By the 30th over, the Three Lions were 174/7 with the tail exposed. Subsequently, Hardik Pandya struck with the ball before Gus Atkinson’s quickfire declined in the 35th over with England falling short by 142 runs.
