WPL | Twitter shocked as Deepti avoids running out at non-striker’s end to make way for no-ball maximum
The 22 yards never fails to surprise the fans with unexpected turns of events. Saturday’s Women’s Premier League encounter between the UP Warriorz and Royal Challengers Bengaluru was a similar one where Deepti Sharma didn’t enforce a runout at the non-striker’s end, which she did previously.

Fielding first after winning the toss, the Bengaluru side failed to penetrate the Warriorz batting inside the 70-run powerplay. However, by the time the innings folded, they gathered four of them for conceding 226 runs, the most in the WPL history. In response, the visitors failed to get a good start, losing wickets in regular intervals in an attempt to be on song with the required run rate. Despite being 107/5 in eleven overs, Richa Ghosh’s blistering 69 and Sneh Rana’s late blitz, helped by Deepti Sharma’s ‘spirit of cricket’ act, kept RCB’s qualification dreams alive.
Having leaked 19 runs off the initial four balls of the penultimate over of the match, Deepti stopped from releasing the ball after realizing Kim Garth was leaving the crease early at the non-striker’s end. For a change, she didn’t run her out despite being in the vicinity of the wickets. Ellyse Perry and the RCB dugout were utterly shocked to see the all-rounde, known for her cheeky attempts, turn out decent at a crucial juncture of the match. The matters worsened for the home side when she overstepped on the next ball and conceded a four and a six, curtailing the equation to 15 needed off the last seven balls. She ran out Charlie Dean in an India versus England match at the Lords in 2022, and the Twitterverse was vividly surprised to see Deepti not opt for a similar act this time around.
