Catches win matches might just be the oldest adage in cricket that still remains as relevant as it was in the game's yesteryears. Bad news for Delhi then, given how Sameer Rizvi dropped a sitter of Nicholas Pooran in Vizag on Monday, and then made things worse by nearly injuring Mitchell Marsh.

Mitchell Marsh made a statement making start to IPL 2025 by launching his very first ball of the campaign for six and carried on in the same vein to bring up a 21-ball half-century after Delhi Capitals won the toss and asked Lucknow Super Giants to bat first in the two teams' season opener. His fireworks were met blow for blow by Nicholas Pooran who arrived to the crease in the fifth over and struck his second delivery for a boundary, but the Caribbean big-hitter had saved his best for after the powerplay. However, his risk-taking brand of cricket inevitably produced a chance for Delhi but in a hilarious turn of events, not only did the hosts let him get away scot-free but also made a mockery of themselves in the aftermath.

Axar chose to continue with Vipraj Nigam even after the field restrictions were lifted and after being struck for seven runs off the first two balls of the seventh over, the leggie found himself up against Pooran. The big-hitter wasted no time in launching a stock legbreak for six before going after a googly with the same intent and result. However, the young spinner chose to stick with his weapon choice and delivered another wrong'un albeit with much more flight, thus deceiving Pooran in the air who yet again tried to heave the ball over the cover region. The Kookaburra took a thick outside edge and went floating in the air down the throat of Sameer Rizvi at short backward point who had positioned himself well to grasp the chance. Yet, in a comedy of errors, Rizvi first lept the ball slip from his grasp as he tried to claw onto it and then sensing a run-out opportunity, flung the white rock at the non-striker's end only to end up smashing the ball into Marsh's back.

The Australian was clealry in agony as tensions rose in the LSG camp given Marsh's injury history but thankfully for both the franchise and Rizvi, the opener was good to continue. Unsurprisingly, Twitterati had a field day with all the chaos.
