Mitchell Marsh's 117 off 64 deliveries handed LSG a big win over GT in Ahmedabad on Thursday

Lucknow Super Giants registered a 33-run win over the Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday to leave Gujarat Titans relying on rivals for a top-two finish. Mitchell Marsh's 117 and Nicholas Pooran's 23-ball half-century meant LSG posted 235/2 which kept GT behind throighout their chase.

Batting first, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh set the Lucknow Super Giants on their way with an electrifying start. A 14-run second over off Arshad Khan immediately signalled a formidable powerplay. The pair negotiated the early swing from Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada cautiously, before Marsh unleashed back-to-back sixes off Siraj to propel LSG to 53 without loss after six overs. The partnership swelled to 91 when Sai Kishore finally claimed Markram’s wicket just before the halfway mark, by which time Marsh had raced to a 33-ball fifty. Nicholas Pooran then chipped in with a first-ball maximum, while Marsh torched Rashid Khan for 25 in the 12th over en route to his maiden IPL century from 55 deliveries. Pooran reached his own fifty in 23 balls, and Marsh added two more maximums off Prasidh Krishna. Two late sixes from Rishabh Pant in the final over allowed the hosts to post 235 for two.
In reply, Gujarat Titans began brightly as Sai Sudharsan’s two boundaries in the opening over and Shubman Gill’s trio of fours in the third over kept them firmly in contention. A sharp catch from Markram dismissed Sudharsan for 21 at the end of the powerplay, and Gill fell in the eighth over to Avesh Khan, denting the chase. Jos Buttler’s blistering 18-ball 33 ended when Akash Singh struck at the halfway point, leaving the Titans 96 for four and needing 139 from ten. Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan revived hopes with regular boundaries and a 51-run burst between overs 13 and 16, cutting the deficit to 54 off four. Will O’Rourke then removed Rutherford for 38 and Rahul Tewatia soon after, while Shahrukh reached his fifty in 22 balls. A miserly seven-run 17th over from Shahbaz Ahmed, which included Arshad Khan’s wicket, sealed LSG’s victory with 39 still required off eight.
