IND vs WI | Twitter impressed as Gill and Jadeja take India to strong position in second Test
India extended their advantage over the West Indies, restricting the visitors to 140/4 after the second day of the second Test in Delhi. Shubman Gill’s unbeaten century saw India pile a mammoth score before Ravindra Jadeja’s three-wicket haul put the visitors in a spot of bother.

The overnight pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill looked set to extend India’s domination at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, but a horrific mix-up ended the opener’s stay in the second over of the day. He hit 22 boundaries during his marathon knock of 175 from 258 balls, with Nitish Reddy promoted to number five for some quick runs. Meanwhile, Gill recovered from the runout fiasco to complete his half-century with a stylish flick off Jayden Seales. The pair added 91 runs for the fourth wicket as India went past the 400-run mark before Reddy’s entertaining cameo of 43 from 54 balls, which included four fours and two sixes, came to an end. Though they lost two more wickets in the first session, the home side were well-placed at 427/4 when they walked back for lunch.
Gill continued to make merry as he brought up his fifth Test century this year in the second session. He shifted gears, after getting to the three-figure mark, with a six and three fours in the next two overs. Dhruv Jurel looked solid from the other end with a confident defence, but punished the loose balls without fail. They put on 102 runs before Jurel’s dismissal brought about India’s declaration, with the visitors having 11 overs to play out before tea. Gill remained unbeaten on 129 with 16 fours and two sixes, while Jomel Warrican was the pick among the Windies bowlers with a spell of 3/98.
The West Indies’ openers, John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, were able to keep the new ball duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj at bay for the first seven overs. But Campbell was unfortunate to depart after a freakish catch by Sai Sudharsan at short leg ended his run in the middle, and the Windies walked into tea at 26/1.
Post resumption, Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze stitched a much-needed partnership, with the latter taking on Kuldeep with a four and a six in his third over. It was raining boundaries as Athanaze once again smashed two boundaries in the left-arm spinner’s over, while Chanderpaul repeated the feat against Ravindra Jadeja in the next. Just when it looked like the partnership would frustrate the hosts, Jadeja sent Chanderpaul packing with KL Rahul taking a safe catch at slips. The visitors, after that 66-run partnership, slid from 87/1 to 107/4 before another crucial stand between Shai Hope and Tevin Imlach ensured the West Indies walked back without any further damage. The Indian vice-captain ended with figures of 3/37, while fellow spinner Kuldeep picked up one wicket.
