IND vs NZ | Twitter in splits as Kohli mimics snake charmer to mock Iyer's dodgy catching technique

India has been so dominant in 50-over cricket for so long now, a match on home turf more or less feels like a celebration of an already inevitable victory. Virat Kohli carried the same spirit in Vadodara on Sunday in the first ODI against New Zealand as he made fun of Shreyas Iyer's tentative catch.

Virat Kohli was in a jovial mood during the first ODI between India and New Zealand in Vadodara

New Zealand spurned a brilliant 117-run foundation set by Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls to end up with a subpar score in the first ODI against India at the Kotambi Stadium. A regular fall of wickets meant the Kiwis failed to stitch together any significant stand after the opening phase and lost five wickets for the cost of just 81 runs during a particularly damaging spell in the middle overs. Sparks were hoped when Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips, two long time lynchpins of the batting order, got a start and aggregated 24 runs together but Kuldeep Yadav struck at the crucial juncture and his teammates made sure to celebrate the occassion appropriately.

On the second ball of the 34th over, Kuldeep Yadav trundled in from over the wicket and floated a fullish delivery on the off-stump to draw Phillips forward. The veteran obliged and took a decent stride out, only to realize he had been outfoxed by a googly as he timidly pushed his bat at the Kookaburra. A thick leading edge followed and the ball balooned to point towards ShreyasIyer lying in wait. However, the amount of revs on the ball meant it dilly-dallied as it crescendoed and then descended, making Iyer guess where it was going to end. Ultimately, after a coupleof nervy moments, the Indian vice-captain managed to pocked the ball safely much to the delight of his teammates. As the players got together in a huddle to celebrate, the ever-cheeky Virat Kohli fashioned his hand into a 'pungi' used by the likes of snake charmer and animatedly began air-playing it, referencing the behaviour of the ball and trials Iyer needed to endure to made sure he ended up with the ball in hand.

Twitter was thoroughly amused by the hilarious antics of the Indian duo.
