Last year's runners-up Atletico Madrid defeated Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 in the Champions League last-16 tie to put the club within reach of the Champions League quarterfinals. In another match, Sergio Aguero scored twice to help Manchester City win 5-3 against Monaco after being down 1-2 at half-time.

Atletico Madrid 4-2 Bayer Leverkusen

Atletico Madrid opened their Champions League knockout stage by scoring four away goals to take charge of their Champions League last-16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen. Meanwhile, in the same game, Atletico star Antoine Griezmann also became the club's all-time top Champions League scorer.

In the 17th minute of the game, Atletico’s Saul Niguez scored the first goal with a stunning strike, after picking the ball up on the right side of the post. Then, he cut the ball inside and with a left-footed shot, pushed the ball into the top corner. After eight minutes, Antoine Griezmann doubled the score after getting the pass from Kevin Gameiro.

Karim Bellarabi pulled one back for Leverkusen in the 48th minute of the game, but the joy didn’t last for long as Gameiro's penalty helped Atletico to take a 3-1 lead in the 59th minute. Although Stefan Savic’s own goal helped Leverkusen to take the game to 3-2, Fernando Torres pulled one back to finish the game at 4-2 in favour of Atletico Madrid.

Manchester City 5 - 3 Monaco

Manchester City came from behind to secure a crucial two-goal advantage in the Champions League last-16 tie against Monaco at the Etihad Stadium. Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for City, but Monaco’s Radamel Falcao pulled off the equalizer in the 32nd minute.

Monaco even went on to take the lead thanks to the 40th-minute conversion from Kylian Mbappe Lottin, but City launched an attacking salvo after coming back from the break.

After Sergio Aguero scored the equalizer for City, Falcao, back to his best after failed loan spells at Manchester United and Chelsea, lifted a brilliant chip over Caballero to take the game to 3-2.

City, however, made a fantastic comeback into the game after that. Aguero scored his second before John Stones, and Leroy Sane scored a goal each to finish the game at 5-3.
