Tottenham are set to make a move for Bruno Fernandes, effectively hijacking Manchester United’s move for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder. The Red Devils have been linked with a move, but since no formal bid has materialized yet, the door has been left open for Spurs to make their move.

With the August 8 transfer deadline inching closer, Tottenham are looking to close up the final days of the window with a bang. The North London side have already made two additions to their squad so far in Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke. But that’s all they’ve done, with moves for Giovanni Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon still on the cards.

Yet with Real Betis refusing to budge on Lo Celso’s £88 million price tag/release clause, Tottenham have been forced to look elsewhere, and elsewhere means at a Manchester United target. The Evening Standard has reported that Spurs are now after Bruno Fernandes, with Mauricio Pochettino looking for another attacking midfielder.

The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with Manchester United, with the Red Devils also on the lookout for another attacking presence. But they haven’t submitted a formal bid for the Portuguese star and have grown increasingly frustrated at Sporting’s valuation of the player. Spurs, on the other hand, were linked with a move in mid-June but moved on to other targets, namely Lo Celso.

But with Betis refusing to budge on their fee for Lo Celso, Tottenham are back for Fernandes with reports indicating that the club has sent two officials to finalise a deal.
