Reports | Manchester United back in race for Mario Mandzukic
Manchester United have re-entered the race for Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic as they continue to look for replacements for Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian international is set to sign for Inter Milan this summer, with the two sides finally coming to an agreement after months of negotiations.
English news outlet Sky Sports has reported that Manchester United are back in talks to sign Mario Mandzukic, with the Red Devils looking for another striking option. They’ve come to an agreement with Inter Milan over a move for Romelu Lukaku this summer, with the Nerazzurri set to pay £73 million for the former Everton striker.
The 26-year-old has already arrived in Italy to finish his medical, with personal terms between the club and the striker said not to be a problem. This is despite serious interest from Juventus, with the Old Lady even offering Paulo Dybala and the Croatia hitman in a potential swap deal. However, while the move did not generate too much traction, Manchester United eventually declined any move for Dybala, citing the Argentine’s wage demands as their main reason.
Mandzukic, on the other hand, is still keen on a move to Old Trafford but will not force anything, despite rumors that he’s unhappy with his playing time. The 33-year-old struggled to find a permanent place in former manager Massimiliano Allegri’s team-sheet, with him making just 25 Serie A appearances. He is also someone that United have kept tabs on over the last few years and is on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s shortlist.
But the move isn't a top priority, with the Evening Standard indicating that Solskjaer is more than happy to start the season with the players that he does have at his disposal.
