Reports | Tottenham open to selling Christian Eriksen for less than £40 million
Tottenham’s contract rebel Christian Eriksen will be allowed to leave the North London in January for less than £40 million. At the moment, Eriksen has less than seven months left on his current contract and has indicated that he doesn’t want to stay beyond that despite Jose Mourinho’s appointment.
With Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen out of contract at the end of the season, Tottenham have started planning for the future. However, while the two defenders have expressed an interest in staying at the club, the Evening Standard has reported that Tottenham are open to selling Eriksen for less than £40 million. The Danish midfielder has vehemently rejected a new contract despite being offered wages in excess of £200,000-a-week.
It would make him the highest-paid player at the club and would see Tottenham break their otherwise meagre wage structure but the 27-year-old has rejected the offer. Eriksen has already revealed his desire to leave England for another club and the Standard has further added that the former Ajax midfielder will only leave Spurs for the right club.
However, Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy’s desire to sell the 27-year-old might cause a few problems with Juventus keen on signing Eriksen on a bossman. The Danish midfielder will be available for free in six months and can sign a pre-contract deal with clubs outside England as soon as the winter window opens on the January 1.
