Premier League outfit Arsenal are ready to step up the chase for Nuno Espirito Santo and are willing to meet his agent next week to discuss the vacant managerial role at the Emirates stadium. Arsenal sacked Unai Emery last month and are in search of a long term replacement for the Spaniard.

Next week, Arsenal will seek discussions with Nuno Espirito Santo about the vacant job of the manager, as reported by Daily Mail. The manager of the Wolves is one of about 12 prospects with whom the Gunners would like to chat, and the club are likely to intensify their interest in the Portuguese over the coming days. Nonetheless, before having formal negotiations with Nuno, Arsenal will have to obtain permission from Wolves. Belgian manager Roberto Martinez, who has experience in the Premier League with Wigan and Everton, was also approached to replace last month's fired Unai Emery.

The ex Sevilla boss was relieved of his duties after Arsenal failed to win their home game against Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Europa League.  The North London club will start to work with a three-man shortlist after it has talked to all the candidates, including Mauricio Pochettino, Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira. In the meantime, Freddie Ljungberg, the interim manager, revealed that during his period as a temporary officer Arsenal did not allow him to bring in any assistants.

While Manchester City, Arsenal’s opponents at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, employ an army of staff to assist boss Pep Guardiola, Ljungberg only has Per Mertesacker, the 35-year-old former Arsenal defender who is juggling assisting the Swede with his job as head of the club’s academy. The 42-year-old has had a shaky start as the temporary manager of Gunners with the club only managing to win just one game, losing one and drawing two.

Nuno Espirito Santo has done some excellent work since being given the charge of Wolves with the ex Benfica boss guiding Wolves from the Championship to Europa League. In his first year, he was able to guide them to the Premier League and in his debut season in the top flight he helped the team finish 7th and earned European football. Wolverhampton also made to the round of 32 after finishing second in their UEFA Europa League group.
