Schalke Goalkeeper Alexander Nubel has received a lot of praise from football commentator and expert Kevin Hatchard. Nubel’s rise to prominence in the German Bundesliga has seen him attract interest from a number of clubs with Tottenham Hotspur the latest English club to join the chase.

Kevin Hatchard feels that Schalke captain and goalkeeper Alexander Nubel has become a top keeper since his meteoric rise last season, as reported by Talksport. Nubel was named the Schalke captain earlier this season and has played every minute of the current campaign. He’s conceded 15 goals in 12 Bundesliga matches and kept only three clean sheets, but Nubel has been praised for his performances between the sticks for Schalke, who currently sit fifth in the table.

However, the sudden recognition also meant that clubs are now looking to acquire the 23-year-old’s signature. Clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur have made enquiries about the shot-stopper. To add fuel to fire, Nubel’s contract is set to expire next season and he is yet to sign a new contract, meaning he might consider an exit.

“One little whisper that came my way on Spurs in the last few days is that they are keeping an eye on Alexander Nubel. He is the captain of Schalke and a goalkeeper in his early 20s. He is a very good goalkeeper with a Neuer vibe about him. He’s good with his feet, commanding, and he’s got a bit of arrogance about him which I don’t think is a terrible thing,” Hatchard told the Talksport.

Tottenham are in need of a new gloveman with captain Hugo Lloris struggling this season before picking up an injury playing against Brighton last month which will keep him out of footballing action at least until the new year. Paulo Gazzaniga has deputised for the sidelined Worldcup winner but looked similarly shaky between the sticks.

“He is out of contract at the end of the season and hasn’t signed a new one yet. He was linked very strongly with Bayern, but the problem is Neuer is still there. So is he going to go to Bayern and sit on the bench? I don’t think he is. Spurs were linked with him in the summer and my understanding is they are keeping an eye on what is going on in that situation,” concluded Hatchard.
