Ben Chilwell has revealed that staying at Leicester City and not joining Liverpool was the perfect move and he has no regrets given their recent success. The 22-year-old has developed from an exciting starlet to one of the best full-backs in the top tier, even making regular starts for England.

The 22-year-old has developed slowly but steadily for the Foxes and has now become a player that manager Brendan Rodgers cannot do without. Heavily linked with a move to Manchester City last summer, Chilwell eventually saw the interest in him die down but that has never mattered to the English full-back. The Leicester City star was the subject of interest from Liverpool in the summer of 2016 but eventually opted to reject the Reds by signing a long term deal with the Foxes.

It’s a move that Chilwell believes has paid off, he admitted in an interview with Sky Sports, with his progress for the Foxes and the England national team vindication of his decision to stay at the King Power. He even went on to add that he has no regrets over not moving to Liverpool given the club's recent success in the Champions League and their performances in the Premier League.

“I was 17 at the time. My agent was the one dealing with it all, talking to Liverpool and Leicester about the situation. At the time, I was trying to break into the U21 team at Leicester so I was just focused on getting into that and progressing into the first team here. I have definitely no regrets,” he said reports Sky Sports.

“When I look at how the last four or five years have gone, starting eight games now for the England team is something I'm very happy with. Leicester was the right place for me to be at the time and the older players have helped me a lot. The staff have kept me grounded. Definitely no regrets."

The Foxes have started the season brilliantly and currently sit in third place, behind Liverpool and Manchester City, after wins over Tottenham and Newcastle United. Their next game, however, pits them against league leaders Liverpool and Chilwell has admitted that everyone at Leicester City knows just how important this game is for Brendan Rodgers. The former Liverpool boss was replaced by Jurgen Klopp and left England completely, joining Celtic, before making his return to the Premier League with Leicester City.

“Everyone knows how good he is. What he's brought in over the last season or so, he's freshened it all up, the training's different every day and he's improving the players as well. He wants to win games but also wants to improve the team for the future and looking in the long run to where we can be in five years instead of a short fix.

"Any manager going back to their old stadium will want to get a win. He's very relaxed, training's been the same as it has been the whole season. It would be nice to go there and put a performance for the boss,” concluded the full-back.
