Reports | Real Madrid playing long game with Kylian Mbappe
Despite a summer of heavy spending Real Madrid’s plans for the future are not done with Kylian Mbappe next on their list and they are willing to wait. With Neymar struggling with injuries last season, Mbappe put his best foot forward and finished the season with 39 goals in all competitions.
Despite a summer that saw the likes of Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy, and Rodrygo arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid are far from happy with their squad. The Los Blancos failed to sell Gareth Bale, Casemiro, Mariano Diaz and a few others but also failed to bring in a marquee superstar despite links to Paul Pogba, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. But ESPN has reported that their plans for Mbappe are far from over with president Florentino Perez playing the long game to get his man.
The report revealed that the Real Madrid president is looking to use the same tactics that saw him bring both Hazard and Thibaut Courtois to the club with the two former Chelsea men signing over the last two summer windows. With the Frenchman tied to PSG till June of 2022, Perez is hoping that Mbappe runs down his contract before Real Madrid make a move and create a scenario where PSG have no choice but to sell him for a cut-price deal. However, reports have indicated that Neymar will be their top target but the ESPN has negated that and added that it's Mbappe or nobody.
Spanish news outlet Marca added that the Los Blancos believe that few clubs in the world can match their ability to spend and thus compete for the 20-year-old forward. But the report further revealed that Perez’s biggest obstacle will be PSG president Nasser Al-Khelafi who is looking to tie the former Monaco starlet with a lucrative long term deal.
