I want Olivier Giroud to stay at Chelsea, admits Frank Lampard
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has expressed his desire of keeping French striker Oliver Giroud at Chelsea despite Giroud wanting to leave in January over a lack of game time. Lampard is prepared to discuss Giroud's role in the squad and talk about his future at the club after Tammy Abraham's emergence.
World Cup winner Oliver Giroud has expressed his desire to move out of Chelsea if he continues to remain on the fringes of the Chelsea lineup. The striker said that he be forced to reconsider his future if his playing time doesn't increase. Giroud was once again restricted to the bench in Chelsea's home win against Newcastle causing more frustration. Frank Lampard has been in awe of Tammy Abraham who has made the starting spot his own scoring 9 goals in 12 appearances for the Blues.
Lampard doesn't want to hamper Abraham's rise and will give him regular chances to build on the strong start. That means Giroud might be deserted from the team for longer periods and will only get chances in the League cup and the FA Cup. According to English Outlet's Telegraph report, Lampard says that despite Giroud's frustration, he wants him to stay at Chelsea. Giroud was influential while on international duty, scoring against both Iceland and Turkey.
“I had a good chat with Oli before he went away and I always respect all the players, but particularly the players of that age of low thirties. I love his professionalism. He was bang on when he spoke to me and with his quotes when he was away with France. He shouldn’t be happy and accept not playing. That’s what good players do. I think, as I said to Oli, he will get his games and be a big influence for us," said Lampard to the Telegraph.
“At the moment, because of how Tammy is playing, there hasn’t been the minutes, so I would happily sit down with Oli in January. But that is a long way away. I want him here," concluded the Chelsea legend.
