Inter Milan will try and sign Jan Vertonghen in the summer of 2020 despite Tottenham set to reject any move or offer for the Belgian center-back. The former Ajax star is in the final year of his contract in North London and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and to Italy.

Jan Vertonghen is out of contract with Tottenham at the end of this season and reports indicate that the Belgian is considering options once his contract expires with links to a move away. Serie A giants Inter Milan were keen to sign him during the 2019 summer window but could not afford him and have already been told that a transfer in January is out of the question. But the Guardian has reported that the Nerazzurri will try to convince the Belgian to join in time for the 2020-21 season.

Spurs, however, are looking to tie the Belgian to a new deal but the talks have stalled after both parties have failed to reach agreeable terms. The Tottenham hierarchy will try restarting the contract talks with Vertonghen but chances of the 32-year-old agreeing to stay at the New Tottenham stadium are very low. The Nerazzurri, on the other hand, are preparing to offer the former Ajax defender a 3 year deal with a hefty signing bonus and wages to match.

Vertonghen has played 285 games for Spurs since his €15 million move from Ajax in 2011 and has been arguably one of their most consistent players over the last few years. However, Tottenham has been put in a difficult situation as a number of players are out of contract next summer and are also unsettled at the club. Toby Alderwiereld and Christian Eriksen join that list and could potentially leave Spurs on a free transfer as their contract runs out at the end of this season.
