Barcelona were eyeing a move for Lucas Moura this summer, but they were unwilling to meet Tottenham’s £45 million valuation. The Brazilian finished last season as one of the best players at the North London club, scoring 15 goals in all competitions including a Champions League semi-final hattrick.

Barcelona rejected the chance to sign Tottenham star Lucas Moura this summer because they could not afford his £45 million valuation reports the Mirror (h/t Mundo Deportivo). The Catalan giants considered the Brazilian to be one of their top targets this summer, especially after his performances for Spurs last season. Moura and Son Heung-Min struck up a brilliant partnership for the North London side, taking them all the way to the Champions League finals.

However, with Harry Kane’s return from injury, Moura was benched for the finals and that did see rumours float about that the 27-year-old was considering his future. He did opt to stay in the end, but the Mirror has reported that the former PSG star was on Barcelona’s radar this summer. The Catalan giants were looking for attacking reinforcements, and while Tottenham were open to a move for Moura, they set a £45 million transfer fee for the 27-year-old.

That price tag led Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde to consider other options, including Christian Eriksen. But no move materialized for the Danish midfielder either, with Valverde opting to use Anssumane Fati and Carles Perez instead.
