Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino admits that the squad needs some time for a rebuild after Spurs lost yet again to League Two side Colchester United in the the Carabao Cup. The North Londoners have struggled over the last few weeks, dropping points against Arsenal and Olympiacos.

Tottenham shocked the world by reaching the UEFA Champions League final last season without spending a penny in the transfer market. It was a brilliant run and then this summer, they finally loosened their pockets spending heavily in the summer window. It saw they bring in the likes of Tanguay Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon, players who could make an impact on the club.

However, that hasn't seemed to have helped the club, as Spurs have had a horrible start to the season. They've somehow managed to register only two wins from 8 games, with their most recent loss to Colchester on penalties (4-3) after the 90 minutes ended in a stalemate. This comes less than a week after their loss to Leicester City and in an interview with the BBC, Pochettino has spoken about his “unsettled” squad.

"We need time again to build that togetherness that you need when you are competing at this level. Uncertainty around the futures of core players such as Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Christian Eriksen has further affected the locker room equilibrium. "When you have an unsettled squad always it's difficult and you lose time, then you need time to recover the time you lose," the Tottenham boss told BBC.

The quality that they have on the paper hasn’t been reflected on the pitch. They lie 7th in the league table with two wins. Spurs’ away form has been worse than ever, the club has won none of their five away fixtures. The Argentine went on to add about how they haven't had the time to adjust to each other and their new surroundings, which will change any team.

"That's where we are. Maybe our performances are good but you need this extra, which is mental, connection. It's energy to be all together, not to have different agendas in the squad. We are in a period where it's a bit tough for us but we keep working to find a solution. When this type of thing happens it's about staying clear and fresh and calm. We're trying to find solutions and we only need time," concluded Pochettino.
