Reports | Real Madrid are considering a move for Saul Niguez
Real Madrid have identified the 24-year-old Spanish international Saul Niguez as an alternative target if the Merengues fail to get Paul Pogba from Manchester United. The talented Atletico Madrid midfielder has a €150 million release clause, which is a price Real Madrid are willing to pay.
Real Madrid had a lot of players under the radar in the last summer transfer window, especially for the midfielder position. Paul Pogba was the most talked amongst many alternatives like Christian Eriksen from Tottenham, Donny Van de Beek from Ajax and Bruno Fernandes from Sporting CP, but none of them came. Real Madrid's chairman Florentino Pérez failed to meet United's demands, as the Red Devils asked €188 million to let the player go with the Los Blancos unwilling to pay that much.
Curiously, that is the amount needed to pay Saul Niguez's release clause. According to Don Balon, the 24-year-old Atletico Madrid midfielder is seen as an alternative in case Real Madrid fails to get Pogba next year. While Pogba may be keen on a move away from Manchester United, that move may just be out of Real Madrid's reach, although Saul is reportedly considered to be the next big thing.
The club will need to convince the player to move to a rival, as Real Madrid look to this potential deal as an answer to recent deals that the Colchoneros made for former Real Madrid players like Álvaro Morata, Marcos Llorente and Mario Hermoso.
