In a move that has stunned Lazio and fans of the club across the world, David Silva has signed for Real Sociedad and the Spaniard has penned a two-year contract with the club. Reports indicated that Silva and Lazio had come to an agreement over a three-year deal before Sociedad hijacked the move.

While Manchester City tried and tried to convince arguably their best player to stay at the club, in the end all their efforts were to no avail. Instead, the Cityzens were forced to say goodbye to David Silva and move on to an era where their midfield was no longer graced by the magician. However, his future has been up in the air with interest from Italy and the MLS but it seems that Spain was in the race as well.

While Silva’s father admitted that the midfielder wasn’t considering Spain, Real Sociedad has won the race for the 34-year-old’s signature with him signing a two year deal with the club. That is despite the fact that Silva had come to an agreement with Serie a side Lazio which has left the Italian side reportedly “furious” at Sociedad for hijacking the move. While neither side has released a statement on the issue, Sociedad released a statement that confirmed the move and the fact that Silva will sign a two year deal.

“Real Sociedad and David Silva have reached an agreement that will see the player from the Canary Islands wear the txuri urdin shirt for the next two seasons. The new realista joins as a free agent from Manchester City and will sign for the club until June 30, 2022. Silva will join the team in the coming days,” read the statement on Real Sociedad’s website.
