Reports | Premier League clubs face prospect of returning Ā£340 million in TV money
All 20 Premier League clubs have been reportedly told that they could have to return upto Ā£340 million in TV revenue even if the season resumes in the near future. With the Bundesliga set to become the first major European league to resume action, the Premier League and the La Liga are close behind.
The Premier League has already started on their plan to resume action with a āProject Restartā their main plan to get the 2019/20 season off and running again. However, part of Project Restart is playing at neutral venues and that option has been rejected by a myriad of clubs. Brighton and Watford have already revealed that they donāt plan to play at neutral venues with a reported four more clubs set to do the same.
However, a bigger problem has seen the BBC report that all 20 Premier League sides could have to return an estimated Ā£340 million to broadcasters. That includes domestic and international broadcasters with them reportedly set to return even if the season does resume. The report further added that the refund has been requested as matches are not taking place as expected.
This comes after Premier League chief executive Richard Masters previously admitted that the league could suffer a loss of at least Ā£1 billion if the league failed to complete the 2019-20 season. But concerns over neutral venues and a potentially premature return has seen the Daily Mail report that a few players might boycott the return of training on Monday.
