Former Barcelona president and future presidential candidate Joan Laporta has claimed that he would love to see Pep Guardiola back but it’s not a decision he can make. The Spaniard is considered to be one of the club’s greatest ever managers and few consider him to be the best in the world.

While Guardiola is now at Manchester City and has turned the Premier League giants into one of the premier clubs in world football, his time at Barcelona is highly regarded. Mainly because of the fact that the Spaniard, who spent four years between 2008 and 2012, transformed the football landscape and Barcelona by winning 14 trophies. That includes three La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns and has seen the club struggle to maintain that level since.

While the Catalan giants have won their fair share of league titles, their last Champions League trophy came in the 2014/15 season under Luis Enrique. But their lack of success in Europe’s premier cup competition has been what has driven Barcelona with them looking to change things. That has seen Joan Laporta try to reclaim his role as president and he admitted that he would love Guardiola to be his manager if he wins.

"I'm working to introduce myself as a presidential candidate. I've been president before and I'm excited to be back. The situation in 2021 will be dramatic and we'll have to reverse it. I'm working with people I trust. I would very much like Guardiola to come back, but now he is at City and it is a decision that Pep should take," Laporta said, reported Goal.

“He is a benchmark for Barcelona and many Catalans would like him to train Barca again. But at the right time, I will speak to the person we think should be a Barca coach from 2021.”
