No idea why Youri Tielemans' contract situation is dragging on, reveals Brendan Rodgers

In light of questions over Youri Tielemans’ future, Brendan Rodgers has admitted that while he isn’t sure why contract negotiations are dragging, there have been no problems with the midfielder. The Belgian has two years left on his contract with Leicester City, and has been linked with a move away.

During his time at Anderlecht, Youri Tielemans was arguably one of the best players that the Belgian side ever produced. However, things haven’t gone according to plan for the midfielder since, with the Belgian struggling to thrive at Monaco, before it changed following a loan spell to Leicester City. Tielemans slotted in perfectly into Brendan Rodgers’ side with a permanent move following, and things since then have gone perfectly with the Tielemans even netting an FA Cup winner for the Foxes in the final.

It earned the club their first FA Cup trophy but Tieleman’s performances has attracted a lot of attention from all over Europe. That hasn’t been made easier with the fact that he has only two years left on his deal but Brendan Rodgers has admitted that there is no drama behind the situation. The Leicester City boss further added that while he has no clue as to why negotiations over an extension are dragging on, he has faith that things will happen eventually.

"There’s no drama with it. It’s just the reality of the situation. It only becomes a problem to me if there’s a lack of commitment or there’s not the same intensity but that’s never been the case with Youri. It’s natural, he is a very talented player who is in discussions with the club and we’ll see where that takes us,” Rodgers said, reported Goal.

"I have no idea [why it is dragging on], I concentrate on the football and making sure he is the best player he can be, giving him the support, environment and culture to be that. He is a top-class professional and a joy to work with and while he is here – for however long that is – he will always give, and I will always give the best to his development."
