According to reports from The Telegraph, Manchester United will not allow Cristiano Ronaldo to leave the club despite the forward’s desire to leave the club in pursuit of silverware in the twilight of his playing career. United fully expects Ronaldo to fulfill the second year of his two-year deal.

Cristiano Ronaldo joined Manchester United for his second spell at the club in a shock move the previous summer. The 37-year-old has been the Premier League side’s talisman in attack and scored 24 goals across all competitions to round out his season although he was unable to arrest the English side’s dismal form over the course of the campaign. United languished to their worst ever points tally in the top flight of English football while finishing sixth by the skin of their teeth on the final day of the season.

It was reported that Ronaldo had reiterated his intention to leave the Red Devils this summer as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner wished to close out his playing career by competing for major silverware for the future. According to reports from The Telegraph, United are set to play hardball with the Portuguese forward as the English side is insistent that the 37-year-old will fulfill the second year of his current contract.

The club, with the approval of manager Erik ten Hag, see the Real Madrid legend as a pivotal part of their squad and will do their best to convince him to stay at Old Trafford ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. It is understood there hasn’t been any offers on the table for Ronaldo despite reports that his agent Jorge Mendes has courted interest from Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Napoli.

Further information from reliable journalist Laurie Whitwell has suggested that Ronaldo is set to miss to the first day of pre-season on Monday citing family reasons and the request has been accepted by the club although it will fan the flames of rumours that he will leave the Manchester club.
