Decided to stay at PSG and make myself available, claims Mauro Icardi

In light of rumours of a move away, Mauro Icardi has hit out at criticism as he revealed that he plans on staying at PSG and that people know exactly who he is because of what he has done. The 29-year-old endured a tough 2021/22 season, making just ten league starts and scoring four goals.

When Paris Saint-Germain signed Mauro Icardi permanently in the summer of 2020, a lot was expected from the forward but the now 29-year-old has struggled to live up to expectations. Instead, Icardi has netted just nineteen goals in two seasons for the club and that tally includes just five goals across all competitions in the 2021/22 season. That was because of Lionel Messi’s arrival at the club which restricted the forward to just 10 Ligue 1 starts, for a total of 13 starts from his 30 appearances.

That combined with PSG’s interest in Robert Lewandowski has seen Icardi linked with a move back to Italy and reports have indicated that the Argentine no longer has a place in Paris. However, that hasn’t gone down well with the 29-year-old as he hit out at journalists and his critics alike, and admitted that the “stories are a load of cr*p”. The forward also added that he has “decided to stay” at PSG and see out the remainder of his contract.

“I’m in Africa, next year I’ll let you organise my holidays if you like. These stories are a load of cr*p like every year. When I was scoring 30 goals a season it was the same thing. Is my career in the balance? I have two years left on my contract at PSG,” Icardi wrote on Instagram.

“I don’t think it’s in the balance as you suggest with this cr*p. At 29, don’t worry that having scored 200 goals, I think everyone knows me well enough. Then I decide to stay and make myself available. Thanks a lot and a big hug from Africa with the gorillas, the lions and all my friends who have more respect. See you soon.”
