A BCCI official has revealed that Anil Kumble wanted the Indian team to bat first against Pakistan in the final which Kohli decided to overlook. Moreover, the former leg-spinner lashed out at the team for their lacklustre performance in the final and gave them a dressing down like "school kids".

On Tuesday, Anil Kumble stepped down as the coach of the Indian team and made the reasons for his resignation known via his Twitter handle where he posted a letter describing his relationship with Kohli as 'untenable'. The reports of a spat between the two were doing rounds even before India left for England to begin their Champions Trophy campaign. However, a surprising fact that surfaced during the meetings of the BCCI officials with the concerned parties was that the two were not on talking terms since six months.

A BCCI official told NDTV that Kumble wanted India to bat first in their Champions Trophy final against Pakistan whose opinion was seconded by many experts after the match. However, Virat Kohli elected to bowl first as opposed to Kumble's recommendation and following the defeat the former leg-spinner lashed out at the Indian team for their performance in the final which the source termed to be "school boy scoldings". The Delhi batsman felt that the team was made up of professional players who did not deserve to be treated like children.

Moreover, Kohli was possessive about the Indian team and did not resonate with Kumble's theory of a disciplined and regimented lifestyle for the players. The players too supported the Indian skipper as they think they have the ability to multi-task. The source also revealed that the differences emerged during Australia's tour of India when Kumble decided to replace an injured Kohli with chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav in the field in the last test at Dharamshala. Kohli was apparently ignorant to Yadav's selection.

India will take on West Indies in the first ODI at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain tomorrow sans a coach.
