DC vs CSK | Shane Watson and Dwanye Bravo star in Chennai Super Kings’ emphatic 6-wicket win against Delhi Capitals

Shane Watson and Dwanye Bravo had a very good day-out in New Delhi as Chennai Super Kings romped home on a canter to secure their second victory. MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav played out the game after the bowlers made sure that Delhi Capitals suffered problems to no end on a two-paced wicket.

Shane Watson (8/10): The Big man managed to give the defending champions a perfect start with a blistering 26-ball 44 that set up the chase perfectly. He didn’t adopt his usual style of starting slowly in this game, rather with some quick hitting ensured the momentum was with the visitors. It was one of those days where it paid off, and thankfully for CSK, it came on a two-paced track where batting was not very easy.

Ambati Rayudu (2/10): Another opportunity and another waste of a game by the CSK opener. Despite having his back against the wall, as far as the World Cup selection is concerned, Rayudu literally made his batting a very difficult proposition to look at. He is not helping his case of getting into the good books of the National Team selectors.

Suresh Raina (7.5/10): After Watson set-up the base, “Mr. IPL” smashed a quickfire 30, and that meant the team was never under any pressure. He would have wanted to continue a bit longer, which could invariably let Kedar Jadhav free, but that was okay considering there was still 58 balls remaining with just 50 runs required to get those all-important two points.

Kedar Jadhav (7.5/10): He knew that it was not a very difficult proposition after Raina’s dismissal, but it could have become one if one of MS Dhoni or him was dismissed then. He decided to play out gamely and made sure that the team didn’t have to break a sweat at all.

MS Dhoni (7/10): Oh MS Dhoni. Why are you giving jitters to your fans? An orthodox MSD innings, slow, but eventually took the team over the line, but this type of innings unnecessarily affects the team's NRR which might come back to haunt them in the latter parts of the league.

Ravindra Jadeja (7.5/10): The selective distribution of KRAs has made MS Dhoni the celebrated leader that he is today and Jadeja’s immense faith in everything that Dhoni wants from him was the reason for his success. Didn’t attempt anything fancy, bowled that stump-to-stump line to give away only 23 runs in four overs.

Dwayne Bravo (8.5/10): After bowling one ball for one wicket in the last game, Bravo had an extended spell today, in which he capitalised to pick three wickets. It was about seizing the opportunities after Iyer dismissal, Bravo didn’t do anything different.

Deepak Chahar (8.5/10): If you know you have a weakness, then use that like Deepak Chahar. His performance today was as much down to Deepak Chahar as it was to MS Dhoni for the way the CSK skipper used the pacer. Within seven overs of the Delhi innings, Chahar had already bowled his quota of overs, mainly down to the fact that he was bad in the middle and death earlier, but very good with the new ball. 1/20 in four overs meant he has my and, more importantly, Dhoni’s support for the entire season.

Shardul Thakur (5/10): Is he an extra? Well, CSK don’t think so. He was not needed to bowl in the first game and bowled only a couple in Delhi, but his catch to dismiss Shikhar Dhawan showed the world that he is really in the team and it wasn’t a typo on the teamsheet. Too little sample size to judge him.

Harbhajan Singh (8/10): You win matches with new blood, but you need to have experience in your team to win a championship. Go on and chastise CSK as much as you want, but Harbhajan is going to be valuable in their title defense and today’s performance just highlighted why. He conceded 30 runs in four overs which not only restricted the hosts from scoring freely in the beginning but also kept CSK in a good place throughout the first innings.

Imran Tahir (7/10): Imran Tahir can’t restrict run-flow. He will concede the momentum by giving a lot of runs, but he is a serious wicket-taker in his own right. The game this evening just epitomised the way he plays - a couple of overs, spent runs at 10 rpo and took Shreyas Iyer’s wicket. This wicket alone is as good as any good as any economical bowling effort.
