India’s challenge at the BWF New Zealand Open has come to an end as HS Prannoy lost the quarter-final match of Men’s Singles on Friday. After taking the first game against Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama, Prannoy lost the next two and was defeated 21-17, 15-21, 14-21 in the quarter-final match.

India now have just one shuttler left in the Super 300 tournament after B Sai Praneeth lost to Lin Dan in straight games while HS Prannoy defeated Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto in straight games to enter the quarterfinals. The doubles pair Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy also bowed out in pre-quarters.

India started their New Zealand Open campaign on a sour note with Saina Nehwal getting eliminated in the first round itself while male shuttlers Sai Praneeth and HS Prannoy advanced. Lakshya Sen was also shown the door but not before he stretched Wang Tzu Wei to a thrilling three gamer match.
