Kings XI Punjab secured their second successive win of the IPL by thrashing Royal Challengers Bangalore by 8 wickets with 5 overs to spare. Earlier, AB de Villiers’ late surge of 89 runs helped RCB post a total of 148 runs, but as it turned out, it was not even close to being a competitive score.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Shane Watson - (3/10)

The skipper’s poor form with the bat and ball continues for yet another match. He could manage to score a solitary run and spent 28 runs in the couple of overs he bowled today. It was not just his performance during the game that was unconvincing as he, surprisingly, chose to bat first after winning the toss.

Vishnu Vinod - (5/10)

Vishnu Vinod opened the batting today replacing Gayle but failed to cash in on the opportunity by getting out for just 7 runs to a Sandeep Sharma short delivery. The replacement for KL Rahul should know that he won’t get a better chance to announce himself on the big stage.

AB de Villiers - (9/10)

ABD is back and with a bang slamming an unbeaten 89 runs off 46 deliveries which helped RCB to get to a respectable total of 148 runs. He smacked Mohit Sharma’s last two deliveries for mammoth sixes to enthrall the audiences.

Kedar Jadhav - (5/10)

Coming into the match, Jadhav was in good form and the RCB fans were hoping for a firecracker of an innings when he stepped onto the field. But he became the victim to a poor umpiring decision and was given leg before wicket when the ball was clearly missing the leg stumps. Mandeep Singh - (6/10)

Mandeep Singh - (5/10)

Mandeep Singh walked in at a time when there was a great pressure on the RCB side for putting some runs on the board as well keeping the wickets safe. ABD needed some support at the other end and Mandeep provided the perfect support with 28 runs at a strike rate of 82.35.

Stuart Binny - (6/10)

He was associated in an unbeaten 80-run partnership for the fifth wicket with ABD, with Binny’s contribution being 18 not out off 20. He gave set batsman ABD much of the strike, which was enough to get the RCB to a respectable total of 148.

Pawan Negi - (5/10)

Did not get a chance to bat but bowled one over in which he spent only 7 runs. Not bad indeed.

Iqbal Abdulla - (4/10)

The spinner was not allowed to settle by the Punjab openers and gave away 19 runs at an economy of 9.50 in the two overs he bowled today. However, he was impressive in the previous match against Delhi Daredevils and going by that, RCB would hope that he comes back to form soon.

Tymal Mills - (6/10)

The Englishman gave RCB their first breakthrough by trapping Manan Vora LBW. But it was too little too late and Punjab were comfortably ahead of their required run rate. He spent 22 runs in his 2 overs. But with his success lies RCB’s quest for glory.

Yuzvendra Chahal - (6/10)

Chahal got the wicket of Axar Patel when the Punjab side needed just 71 runs off as many balls to romp home. Although he spent 29 runs in 3.3 overs, he was the one to put pressure on the opposition. But the lack of runs on the board meant he was taken by Maxwell with elan.

Billy Stanlake - (4/10)

The pacer started decently but leaked a lot of runs at the end to finish with the figures of 4-41-0. But that was mostly because of the lack of runs on the board.

Kings XI Punjab

Hashim Amla - (8/10)

Like his compatriot, Amla found the pitch to his liking scoring an unbeaten 58 off just 38 balls. He started off with two boundaries in as many overs but with Vohra taking the attack to the opposition, Amla was happy to play the second fiddle. But that didn’t mean that the stylish South African did not play his shots, with almost 60 percent of his runs coming off boundaries.

Manan Vohra - (7/10)

After a disappointing performance against Pune, Vohra came out to bat with positive intent scoring runs in almost every direction. He looked well worth his score before being fooled by a slower Mills ball to throw away his wicket.

Axar Patel - (8/10)

For a second game running, Maxwell decided to promote Axar Patel up the order, only this time there seemed to be no logic behind his decision as Patel was dismissed for 9. Patel did, however, pick up the man of the match award for his exceptional bowling performance where he finished his spell with figures of 1/12 in four overs.s

Glenn Maxwell - (9/10)

They call him "The Big Show" for a reason and he appears to be back to his very best with two identical match-winning knocks in consecutive matches. He came out with an intent to not only win the game but chase down the Sunrisers’ net run rate as well. Even though he failed to do the latter, his performances augur well for Punjab’s chances this year.

Wriddhiman Saha - (6/10)

His batting services were not required again but that doesn’t mean that the India stumper did not have a part to play in the game. His exceptional take to dismiss Mandeep is easily an early contender for the catch of the season.

David Miller - (6/10)

Not much to do for the South African as Amla and Maxwell finished off the innings with relative ease.

Marcus Stoinis - (6/10)

He was important in keeping AB quiet during the middle overs and finished off his three overs in no time. Gave away just 12 runs in his first two overs, but two sixes from AB in his third took the shine away from a very tidy performance.

Mohit Sharma - (5/10)

It was just unfortunate for him that he was the one chosen to bowl to a well-settled AB at the death and ended up conceding 35 runs in his last two overs.

Sandeep Sharma - (6/10)

The 23-year-old started the innings well sending Vishnu Vinod packing and conceding just seven runs of his first three overs. But, like all the other Punjab bowlers, he ran into AB at the end and was smashed for 19 in that over. But it was still a good performance by the youngster who might start knocking on the National team’s door again, having made his debut against Zimbabwe in 2015.

Varun Aaron - (8/10)

The 27-year-old grabbed his first opportunity of the season with both the hands. After picking up the wicket of the in-form Kedar Jadhav, Aaron conceded just eight of his next and was taken out of the attack. However, when handed the ball again, he picked up Mandeep’s wicket on the very first ball and ended the day with the impressive match figure of 2/21.

T Natarajan - (4/10)

He was brought on to replace Varun Aaron in the ninth over, but conceding 13 runs in it brought a premature end to his contribution on the night as Maxwell chose to go with his Victoria teammate Marcus Stoinis for the rest of the innings.
