David Warner’s 70* and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 5/19 paved the way for a Sunrisers Hyderabad win, at the bowling friendly Uppal Stadium pitch, against Kings XI Punjab. Manan Vohra played a brilliant knock of 95 to bring the visitors within touching distance of the win but eventually fell short by 5 runs.

Here are the player ratings for the game:

Sunrisers Hyderabad

David Warner - (9/10)

The skipper led from front on the slow track and played the whole 20 overs to get his side to a competitive total of 159. He was the calm antidote to the wickets falling around him, and ended up scoring 70 runs, a great knock that brought the orange cap back to his head.

Shikhar Dhawan - (3/10)

The Delhi batsman wasted another opportunity at the top. After taking his time to settle in, he promptly gave it all up when he gloved a short delivery to Saha at 15. Also dropped Manan Vohra while he was on fire, and was lucky he didn’t drop the game there.

Moises Henriques - (6/10)

Quiet game.  Although the Aussie was ineffective with the bat, he restricted Punjab to only 6 runs in his 2 overs, and dismissed Axar Patel.

Yuvraj Singh - (4/10)

The Punjab veteran would surely want to forget today as he was dismissed for a duck. Ageless and agile, in the field, though, and demonstrated the art of fielding to Mohit Sharma.

Naman Ojha - (7/10)

He took the pressure off Warner when he came on and knit together a 60-run partnership with his skipper.  Enthusiastic behind the wickets as well.

Deepak Hooda - (5/10)

Picked up where Ojha left off, accelerated well, and chipped in with 12 runs before being dismissed.

Mohammad Nabi - (6/10)

The debutant started expensively like his compatriot and teammate Rashid Khan but was able to step up his game in the following over and dismissed Eoin Morgan. Inspiration for one of Ravi Shastri’s brain fades.

Rashid Khan - (5/10)

Finished the innings with a 6 which proved vital. He started his bowling by giving away 16 runs in his 1st over but bounced back into the game by taking 2 wickets in 1 over

Bhuvneshwar Kumar - (9/10)

The purple cap holder remained stubborn and consistent.  Stubborn, by holding on to his purple cap like a leech, and consistent in delivering figures of 5/19. Holds a 6 wicket lead in the “race” for the purple cap.

Barinder Sran - (3/10)

Barinder Sran had a pathetic start to his season and leaked runs, and gave away 29 runs in his 2 overs, before Warner called it his quota.

Siddarth Kaul - (6/10)

He bowled consistently, delivering good line and length. He performed okay under pressure while bowling the last over.  It helped that he was up against the batting qualities of Ishant Sharma.

Kings XI Punjab

Hashim Amla - (3/10)

It was a harsh day for the South African as he faced a peach of a delivery at the start off his innings that eventually turned out to be the end of it as well. His IPL seems to be going from bad to worse and might struggle to find a place for himself in the next game.

Manan Vohra - (8.5/10)

The 23-year-old stole the show with his explosive 95 off just 50 balls. The Punjabi lad stood his ground and dealt in boundaries, scoring 66 off his 95 from the ball crossing the ropes. Vohra was unfortunate to miss out on a deserved century but after his early season form, this performance is a big plus point for the 2014 runner ups.

Glenn Maxwell - (4/10)

The Punjab skipper started proceedings with a boundary and looked to play some attacking shots to disrupt the rhythm of the SRH bowlers. However, he could only manage 10 runs as he became Bhuvneshwar’s second victim of the day.

Eoin Morgan - (4/10)

The Englishman took his time settling down but when he needed to accelerate, Morgan just crumbled under the pressure. Even though he was the second highest scorer with 13 runs from 17 balls, it is not a stat he would be willing to brag about.

David Miller - (3/10)

Yet another bad day at the office. The player who was named “Killer Miller” in the 2014 season appears to be a shadow of his former self. He is not able to pick up the spinners at all and could be another one who could end up losing his place for the coming games.

Wriddhiman Saha - (4/10)

Although the wicketkeeper was short on runs with his bat he contributed with his glove-work by stumping Henriques and taking a great catch of Naman Ojha.

Axar Patel - (6/10)

Patel got Punjab into the game when he dismissed Henriques and Yuvraj on two consecutive deliveries. However, the left-arm spinner ended with conceding 33 runs in his quota of 4 overs on a pitch that was helpful for bowlers. On the batting front, he gave Vohra some company but, like most players in his team, struggled to up the ante when the situation demanded it.

Mohit Sharma - (6/10)

Sharma was at his best today and struck twice for the visitors. The medium pacer even chipped in with the bat when he scored 10 runs off 5 balls before being sent back by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and was the source of much amusement for his failed catch-dive.

KC Cariappa - (6/10)

The leggie got help from the pitch and tried using it to the fullest but Warner was too good for him and smashed him for 11 runs in his 1st over. He dismissed the threatening Ojha, but inexperience shone through, as he played a silly shot for his dismissal.

Ishant Sharma - (5/10)

Sharma used the wicket to the fullest and bowled the perfect line and length and succeeded in choking the SRH batsmen for runs(23 runs from 4 overs). He deserved a wicket for his efforts but fell just short.

Sandeep Sharma - (6/10)

Sharma started strongly giving away just 3 runs in his first over but was taken for a ride towards the end by David Warner. He managed to get Mohammad Nabi but finished his spell by being hit for a six by the talented Rashid Khan.
