Kohli’s team is yet to be tested in Test cricket, says Sourav Ganguly
Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly felt that Kohli’s team is yet to prove themselves in the Test cricket and they can only be tested when they travel to places like South Africa, England and Australia. He also praised the team for winning the first Test match of the series against Sri Lanka.
In ICC Test rankings, India is on the top with 123 rating points. But Ganguly thinks the Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team still had to prove themselves and it can only happen when they tour other top Test nations.
"Virat hasn't been tested yet. Sri Lanka is probably not the strongest Test side at the moment. For me, the fans as well as for Virat Kohli himself, the yardstick will be how well his side performs in South Africa, Australia and England,” Ganguly told India Today.
Yesterday, India thrashed Sri Lanka by 304 runs in the first Test to clinch a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The difference between the teams was very evident as India performed very well in the all the three departments, while Sri Lanka struggled throughout the match.

"The last two years they (Team India) have been wonderful, especially away from home. Under Anil, they won everything in the West Indies and then came the home season.
"I feel India won't be challenged in these conditions. Kohli is absolutely right when he said in the post match ceremony that 'they have been clinical in their performance'," he added.
Kohli has played 58 Test matches for India and has scored 4603 runs at an average of 50.03 which includes 17 centuries and 15 half-centuries.
"I don't consider it a lean patch as he only struggled in one series. If you look at the Champions Trophy and the one-day series in West Indies, he has been in good touch," Ganguly told.
