Virat Kohli has best technique among current cricketers, believes Steve Waugh
Former Australian skipper Steve Waugh has claimed that Indian captain Virat Kohli possesses the best technique among the current cricketers in the world. Waugh has stated that a big occasion player like Virat Kohli can survive anywhere and in any condition with the kind of game he has.
In the recently concluded Test match against England at Edgbaston, Kohli scored a brilliant 149 in the first innings followed by a 51 in the second bringing India close to a memorable victory. After his heroics in the first Test, he became the seventh Indian batsman and the first since Sachin Tendulkar (in June 2011) to top the ICC Test batsman rankings.
Kohli’s extraordinary run of form in the last few years earned him respect from all the cricketing nations around the globe. Drawing comparisons with former greats such as Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, Sir Vivian Richards, and Javed Miandad, Waugh stated that Kohli is a big occasion player and has shown all the traits of a great batsman.
“He (Kohli) is a big occasion player like Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, Viv Richards and Javed Miandad. He has shown all the traits and signs of a great batsman,” Waugh was quoted as saying in Cricket.com.au.
The 53-year-old said that the Indian skipper has the game to survive anywhere and has the best technique in world cricket. He further stated that AB de Villiers is too at par with Kohli but his retirement from Test cricket makes the Indian batsman the best.
“Kohli has got the game to survive anywhere in the world and I feel he has the best technique of anyone in world cricket. He and AB de Villiers have the best technique, but the South African is not playing Tests which makes Kohli the best,” he added.
