English cricketer James Anderson has claimed that his team would have bowled out most teams under the conditions that assisted swing bowling on Day 2 of the 2nd Test match against India at Lord’s. He has stated that his team exploited the conditions very well and any team would have struggled.

The first day of the 2nd Test was washed out as it rained throughout the day. England won the toss on the second day and elected to field first as skipper Joe Root felt that the conditions would assist his bowlers very well. India never seemed to settle down and collapsed to the masterclass of Anderson as the English fast bowler took his 27th Test five-wicket haul, picking 5/20. The visitors were bowled out for 107 runs with rain intervening thrice during the innings.

In a press conference after the end of day’s play, Anderson stated that his team would have bowled most teams out considering the bowler-friendly conditions. He felt that the bowlers exploited the conditions very well and were accurate. He said that any team would have struggled in such conditions.

“I think if we bowled like that today, with those conditions, we would have bowled out most teams in the world. We were very accurate throughout the day and we kept building the pressure. We exploited the conditions as well as anyone in the world. I don’t think it’s just the Indian batsmen that would have struggled,” he said.

Anderson further said that the conditions did favour England heavily, especially in helping them decide on playing an extra pacer Chris Woakes. He did not expect the conditions to favour the bowlers to such an extent and felt that the moisture throughout the day helped the ball to move in the air.

“The rain yesterday certainly made things easy for us. We knew we had to bowl first after winning the toss and use that extra pacer as well. I did not think the ball would do that much as the pitch looked dry. I thought it (the ball) would move around early on, but the moisture all around the day helped it to do a little bit more, and through the air as well,” he added.

The 36-year-old did not seem bothered when asked about his age and hoped that wickets would keep coming for him in the near future. He felt that he could still throw himself around and be competitive.

“I was delighted with how many overs I bowled at Edgbaston. For my body to get through at this age I am really happy with it. But I do not think much about my age. I still feel I can throw myself around and be competitive. I will play as long as possible and hopefully, the wickets keep coming,” Anderson stated.

Speaking of his contest with Kohli, Anderson wondered why the Indian skipper could not edge the ball like everyone else. He liked the competitive contest and said that he loves playing with the best players around the world. He further stated that he will try his best to get the better of Kohli in the series.

“I was thinking why he (Kohli) can’t edge it like everyone else. I have enjoyed the contest between him and myself. He is number one in the world for a reason. I love playing against the best players in the world. I have not got the better of him yet, but I will continue to try my hardest throughout the series,” he said.
