VIDEO | Virat Kohli shows sweet gesture as he stops Lyon from bowling after seeing Finch in pain
“The many sides of Virat Kohli” - if Bollywood decides to make a biopic of the Indian skipper, this would be an apt title. Kohli is passionate and loves to carry his heart on the sleeve, but today he showed his sportsmanship as he stopped Nathan Lyon on his stride after seeing Aaron Finch in pain.
Remember Kumar Sangakkara’s farewell Test match? It was an extremely emotional day for all Sri Lankan cricket lovers and his teammates in particular. However, the script hadn’t been written in a sweet way for the Lankan maestro as he became Ravichandran Ashwin’s bunny throughout the series and was dismissed for 18 in
While the entire world used to term him as only an effervescent and at times a firecracker character, this was a revelation of the other side of his personality. He stays true to himself, but not at the expense of harming anyone. The beautiful trait was well on display once again in the 34th over of the Indian innings in the first Test against Australia in Adelaide.
With Kohli being on strike, Lyon bowled a tossed up ball on the leg, to which Kohli clipped firmly into the on-side. It was a harmless defence - a tactic that Indians have been using since the first ball of the innings - and that immediately bounced right into the throat of Aaron Finch at short leg. After the ball hit him, Finch was visibly suffering through pain and even fell down on his tracks. A small inception by Tim Paine confirmed that he was alright and the play could be resumed.
A bit later, when Lyon went ahead to bowl the fourth ball of the over, Kohli noticed that Finch was still facing some issues with his throat. Seeing that, he immediately asked Lyon to stop and checked with Finch. Lyon also obliged and after Finch gave a green signal that he was alright, the game resumed.
