VIDEO | Bangladesh’s monumental fielding mess-up leaves entire team in shame
If Pakistani players have made a name for themselves with their run-out jokes then Bangladesh will now be right up there, thanks to their monumental mess-ups during run-outs. Yesterday, when a wayward throw reached a delayed Mushfiqur Rahim, he failed to collect and gave a life to Roston Chase.
After Bangladesh managed to give a target of 256 runs for Windies to chase it down, their quicks made continuous inroads putting Windies in a spot of bother. But Shai Hope kept his calm and despite losing Roston Chase in the process, partnered with Keemo Paul to take the team down the line. However, that would have been difficult had Chase not got a reprieve by the Bangladeshi unit.
In the 36th over of the run-chase, Mashrafe Mortaza bowled a length ball to which Chase played straight down the ground. The ball had enough momentum on it and Mortaza immediately dived to his right to deflect the ball towards mid-on. Chase had a miscommunication with Hope as the latter knew that there was never a run on offer. While Hope kept his bat inside the crease while keeping a close eye on the ball, Chase started running to take a single and even crossed the half-way mark.
There was a definite run-out chance there and the fielder at mid-on had an easy opportunity too. However, it is Bangladesh and one can always trust them to bottle crunch situations. After collecting the ball, the fielder at mid-on made a wayward throw that remained sufficiently wide of the stumps. Mushfiqur also needed to come a bit early, but it seemed like he also forgot his basic KRA of being a wicket-keeper. While he somehow reached the near stumps, he failed to collect the ball and uprooted the bails with his gloves for some reason.
