India vs South Africa | Quinton de Kock ruled out from the series due to wrist injury
Quinton de Kock has been ruled out from the remainder of the ODI series and upcoming three-match T20Is series against India due to a left wrist injury. De Kock injured his wrist during the second ODI in Centurion and needed two to four weeks to recover and gain his full fitness.
South Africa, who were trailing the ODI series 0-2, had already lost AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis due to injury concerns and their problems have been magnified as struggling wicket-keeper de Kock, who boasts a brilliant ODI record against India at home, has been ruled out of the remainder of the series. The wicket-keeping batsman sustained the wrist injury during the second ODI match in Centurion and uncapped wicket-keeper Heinrich Klaasen is almost sure to make his international debut in the third ODI at Newlands.
"Quinton suffered an extreme blow to the left wrist while batting in the second ODI on Sunday and felt severe pain and discomfort," Mohammed Moosajee, South Africa's team manager, said today, reported Cricbuzz.
"Further investigation revealed severe bony bruising to the area, with associated swelling around the tendon in the wrist. This type of injury will require between 2-4 weeks to heal, which subsequently rules him out of the remainder of the ODI and T20 series against India. The Cricket South Africa medical team will aim to have him ready for the Test series against Australia starting next month."
While the Johannesburg-born player will not be able to take part further in the series, now he will try to recover ahead of the first Test against Australia starting on March 1 in Durban. De Kock has been undergoing a terrible run of form with the bat with scores of 20 and 34 in the first two ODIs, to add to his bad run in Tests, in which he could only manage to score 71 runs from six innings at an average of 11.83.
