Rohit Sharma has revealed that he understood it was a good wicket to bat and tried to stay calm spending as much time as possible on the pitch. Eoin Morgan pointed out that England had a great start with the bat, but didn’t quite finish well that left them 20-30 runs short of their expectations.

Rohit Sharma's unbeaten century made it a walk in the park for India as they cruised to a seven-wicket victory against England to clinch the three-match T20 International series 2-1 on Sunday. The Indian vice-captain, who scored an unbeaten 100 in 56 balls, made a target of 199 look ridiculously easy on a small Bristol ground after his team-mates did a commendable job at the back end to restrict the hosts to a sub-par score.

Skipper Virat Kohli (43 off 29 balls) played his part in the middle overs while Hardik Pandya, who shone with the ball earlier with a four-wicket haul, played the cameo India team needed. Pandya hit 33 not out off just 14 balls as India reached to 201/3 in 18.4 overs. Sharma later stated that he had assessed the wicket and knew he just had to stay on the wicket as long as possible to score runs.

"That's the style of my play, assessing the conditions was important. We knew the wicket would be nice to play on. I was trying to hold the shape when playing the big shots. I like to be calm, not to panic too much, because once you are there you can make up the scoring. With the wicket being so good I just knew I had to stay there. is a fearless individual and that's what the team want him to do,” Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation.

Earlier, opening batsman Jason Roy had rained sixes in his blistering innings of 67 off just 31 balls before India made a superb fightback on the back of Hardik Pandya's four-wicket haul to restrict England to 198/9. Losing side's captain Eoin Morgan pointed out that England were 20-30 runs short of their expected score and insisted that it was hard to defend such total on a small ground. He asserted that the team would learn from their mistakes and would come back strongly in the ODI series.

"We had a tremendous start with the bat and we didn't do ourselves justice...20 or 30 short. Our execution of shots wasn't there. Picking the right ball to hit is something we'll have to work on. India bowled well, but on a small ground we'd have expected to score more than that. Thought we'd have to do something special with the ball and it's hard to defend on a ground like this. Hopefully we can learn as we go along. This series has produced three completely different performances for us. We learn and hopefully improve," Eoin Morgan said.
