Laxman Sivaramakrishnan labels James Anderson’s recent comments as ‘Childish’
Former Indian leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has gone on to call England pacer James Anderson ‘childish’ after the former’s recent comments on the Indian team were less than friendly. He further added that the experienced fast-bowler should focus on getting fit and getting some wickets.
James Anderson, who regained the number one spot in the ICC Test bowler rankings, was undoubtedly one of the most prominent English bowlers in the past decade. Anderson scalped nine wickets in the drawn two-Test series against Pakistan on home turf last month and will look to repeat the same form against India in the upcoming five-match Test series.
But the experienced pacer hurt Indian sentiments ahead of the eventful month as he spoke some ‘less than friendly words’ against the Indians in a recent interview. And former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan wasn’t too fascinated by Anderson’s comments as he hit out at the fast-bowler and labeling him ‘childish.
“This is a typical style of attacking the captain and trying to disintegrate his mind. Once you attack the captain, the entire team stands to suffer. It’s also an Australian tactic. If the captain stands tall, these criticisms don’t matter.
“Before IPL started, the Australians used such tactics to unsettle the leader of the team. India coach Ravi Shastri would know how to handle this. Ravi is a master of handling the mental side of the game,” Laxman was quoted saying to TOI.
Ramakrishnan, also lovingly-called as ‘Siva’, went to give a few words of advice to Anderson as well, asking the latter to focus on getting fit and picking wickets in the upcoming series.
“Which batsmen don’t want to get runs? More so in Test match cricket. Even Anderson, as a tail-ender, would try to score runs for his team. As captain, Kohli would try and do the same by scoring runs. But more than his runs, his team would be his top-most priority. Therefore, his comments on Kohli are nothing but childish. What Anderson should look to do is to get fit and get some wickets,” Siva added.
