DC vs SRH | Player Ratings – Insensible batting leads to Delhi Capitals’ defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad
Batting first, Delhi Capitals kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and finally managed only 129 in 20 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Feroz Shah Kotla. The target was easily chased down by Hyderabad in spite of a spirited all-round show by Axar Patel for the home side.
Prithvi Shaw (2.5/10): Although he got two boundaries off Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the first over, the opener could not provide the kind of start the Delhi Capitals needed and fell to Bhuvneshwar in the third when he was completely undone by the slower delivery from the Hyderabad pacer. This was his second consecutive failure in the tournament as he was dismissed by the off-cutter for 11 while attempting a cross-batted shot.
Shikhar Dhawan (3/10): He has a habit of sweeping the spinners and had even scored a boundary off Mohammad Nabi’s bowling in the sixth over. But, the same shot came to haunt him four deliveries later as the left-hander top-edged one into the safe pair of hands of Sandeep Sharma at short fine-leg and departed for only 12.
Shreyas Iyer (6/10): Tried to play sensible cricket when wickets kept tumbling at the other end. With less than four overs to go, he wanted to up the ante and fell to Rashid Khan while attempting a sweep. Iyer managed to get 43 runs off 41 balls which made him the top run-getter for the Capitals. The skipper was up for the challenge and started the bowling attack with two spinners on the pitch which was on the slower side. He tried keeping the overs of Rabada, Morris and experienced Ishant for the death overs.
Rishabh Pant (3/10): After losing the wickets of Shaw and Dhawan, Pant had to stitch in a partnership with Iyer at the other end. But, a slight lapse in concentration right after the timeout helped SRH, the side against whom Pant had scored a ton last year in Delhi, get the third wicket. With Nabi’s ball turning away from the left-hander, he chipped it in the air and holed out with Deepak Hooda making no mistake at long-off.
Rahul Tewatia (5/10): Missing the last two games for the Capitals, the Haryana all-rounder made a comeback but was dismissed for only five. He failed to vindicate the team management’s decision of promoting up in the order by gifting a simple catch off Sandeep Sharma’s
Colin Ingram (1/10): After surviving a run-out scare off the previous ball, Ingram cut the next ball and failed to keep it down and Manish Pandey, who had failed to effect the run-out, made amends by taking a good low catch at point. The South African would have been mighty disappointed as he failed to score at a right juncture for his side again in this season.
Chris Morris (3/10): Morris also joined other Delhi batsmen in the procession back into the hut after scoring only 17. He had hit a six off Sandeep in the previous over and wanted to repeat the same against Bhuvneshwar but didn’t get enough bat on that and was caught at the edge of the circle on the off side. He was not that good with the ball either and gave away 26 runs in three overs in a losing cause.
Axar Patel (8/10): What a brilliant day at the office it was for the all-rounder as he starred both with bat and ball for the Capitals. It was the excellent finish with two sixes in the last over that brought back the momentum for Delhi. After his knock of 23 off 13 with the bat, the left-
Kagiso Rabada (4/10): He was brought in to bowl very late in the innings but that didn’t help him nor the Capitals. He leaked runs even in the penultimate over that helped the Hyderabad side to seal the game with Mohammad Nabi hitting the winning runs. He was slightly on the expensive side as he gave away 32 runs in just 3.3 overs.
Sandeep Lamichhane (5/10): The leg-spinner started the bowling attack for the home side this evening and also created some trouble for both the Hyderabad openers. But, he then leaked runs after his initial over and the only thing that came to his rescue was Deepak Hooda’s wicket that he managed to pick up off his last ball. The Nepalese leggie ended up with 1/32 in four overs this evening.
Ishant Sharma (5.5/10): Introduced into the bowling attack at a stage when SRH needed only 40 runs to win in eight overs but Ishant got rid of Manish Pandey who went for a wild cross-batted swipe and holed out in the deep. There was nothing much to pick and chose for Ishant as he bowled only one over but got a wicket.
