IPL 2019 | Player Ratings - Dale Steyn, Parthiv Patel shine as RCB edge past CSK by one run
Dale Steyn was full of fire while Parthiv Patel was the pint-size dynamite to ensure that Royal Challengers Bangalore got the better of Chennai Super Kings by one run. Umesh Yadav, however, had left every RCB fan in shambles by conceding as many as 24 runs against MS Dhoni in the last over.
Parthiv Patel(8.5/10): Well, if you are Parthiv Patel, then be sure, everything will be taken for granted. Patel, however, wanted to destroy the appalling pre-conception and Shardul Thakur gave him the perfect chance to do so. During his 37-ball 53 knock, Patel put on a show and scored runs in every direction of the ground with absolute disdain for the bowlers. This audacity made him RCB’s highest, and the most fluent, run-scorer for the night.
Virat Kohli (2/10): The ball was on the good length and outside off. You don’t need to tell anything else to Virat Kohli - either to thrive or to fall as he will dictate in his own way. Just that Chinnaswamy didn’t have the good fortune to see a classic drive on the up as Kohli gave a simple catch to MS Dhoni to be dismissed for 9 off 8 balls. It would be unfair to chastise Kohli for the same, for the fact that he had done enough for the team single-handedly in the past, but after losing the toss, a careless dismissal was actually not an option.
AB de Villiers (4.5/10): After Kohli’s dismissal, a lot was dependent on AB de Villiers and started also give the RCB fans hope that he was in the mood to destroy the CSK bowlers. However, his pre-meditated shot against Ravindra Jadeja, where he was deceived by the turn in the very last moment. Faf du Plessis, who had earlier dropped his former South African teammate, didn’t make any mistake in gobbling that up when de Villiers was on 25.Â
Akshdeep Nath (5/10): In the world of cruel modality, Akshdeep Nath is swimming with one hand firmly on the side of belief and the other hand drowning him down with each innings. He has been a part of RCB set-up in seven out of 10 matches this season, yet batted only four times, failing each time spectacularly. Life wouldn’t be the same for him if he continues to squander opportunities like the way he did tonight - he gave away a simple catch to du Plessis for 24 off 20.Â
Marcus Stoinis (4.5/10): It was a really unfortunate dismissal, but then again, Marcus Stoinis did very little to have been given a good fortune. When the ball was on the slot, he was trying to flick them away despite knowing that he was playing at a small venue and when he attempted a big one, he was caught by the tag-team effort of Faf du Plessis and Dhruv Shorey. With the ball, he managed to pull off something special and didn’t let the momentum swing in a dramatic fashion.
Moeen Ali (6/10): Conventional logic suggests that Moeen Ali should’ve batted up the order, but RCB sent Marcus Stoinis at No.4 instead, partly to counter the spinners. This rendered ineffective at the end as he had to bat in the fifth gear instantly, scoring 26 runs off 16 balls. Expectedly, he didn’t bowl but was a livewire on the field.Â
Pawan Negi (6/10): Till the date Pawan Negi will continue to play IPL, he will always remain a mystery. After not getting a chance to prove his worth with the bat, Negi must’ve expected to bowl a few overs, but Kohli stuck to the conventional options fearing MS Dhoni’s presence in the middle and took Negi off the attack after the spinner bowled just one over, conceding just seven runs.
Dale Steyn (8.5/10): This was magic, this was life. In his second IPL match after being a late draft into RCB side, Steyn was at his lethal best and showed that he was still the master of swing and movement off the seam. The one that got Suresh Raina out was probably the one any pacer would trade his five-for with. Â
Navdeep Saini (7.5/10): It is true that MS Dhoni decided to stick to his guns and didn’t take any runs when he could actually take one, but taking nothing away from Saini, he gave it all. Swung the ball late and managed to keep Dhoni in check in the penultimate over to ensure that Umesh Yadav had a good enough 26 runs to defend in the last over.
Yuzvendra Chahal (7/10): Doesn’t matter who is doing what, Chahal will continue to do his job with perfection. Even though there was hardly any purchase for the spinners and the wicket was on the heavier side, Chahal attacked the full length by tossing the balls on a regular basis, he ensured that RCB had the bragging rights in the middle-overs exchange.Â
Umesh Yadav (4/10): After Dale Steyn sent a couple of batsmen packing in the very first over, Yadav found the template and tried following the same one in his first over. Instead of pitching on a full-length spot outside the off-stump, which has been his calling card most of the time, the RCB pacer targeted the stump line and remained successful. Although RCB eventually won the game, the Vidarbha pacer conceded 24 runs in the last over to MS Dhoni’s magic, something that wouldn’t make his skipper happy.
