IPL 2019 | Not looking at where we are on the points table, says Ricky Ponting
Ricky Ponting has stated that Delhi Capitals are very much sorted as this moment and they are not looking at where they are right now on the table. While Ponting admitted that the team had "bit the bullet a little bit" against RCB, he added that they started to believe in themselves a little more.
Royal Challengers Bangalore had the game in their control for the major part of Delhi Capitals’ innings at the national capital, but Sherfane Rutherford and Axar Patel shared a crucial unbeaten stand of 46 runs to give the team a solid finish. Their bowlers, however, held their nerves during the game as the Shreyas Iyer-led team overcame the Virat Kohli-led team to ensure a spot in the playoffs for the first time in the IPL since 2012. However, Ricky Ponting observed that the team has a strong belief in the camp with DC now being at the top of the points table with 16.
"We've probably done it the hard way tonight, but the boys are really starting to believe in themselves, they are trusting one another, and playing some good cricket. So all in all, we are pretty happy with where we're at," Ponting was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
"You want to be peaking at the right time, so for us to bounce back after a five-day break and win tonight was a really good thing. We go to Chennai now, which is a hard place for anybody to win, so that's a great challenge for us.
Delhi Capitals will take on Chennai Super Kings, who conceded their top position to the former after losing to Mumbai Indians for the second time this year. However, Ponting stated that the team is not at all concerned about their position on the table.
“To the boys' credit, we haven't really talked about where we are on the table, just getting as well-prepared and planning as well as we can for the next challenge. So yeah, we've qualified, that's really great, but two big games to go, and the target now will be to finish one or two."
