CAB mulling over removing Pakistan cricketers' photos from Eden Gardens
After BJP's youth wing workers protested in front of the Eden Gardens, CAB president Sourav Ganguly has admitted that he is thinking about taking off photographs of Pakistan players from the walls. The state cricket associations of Vidarbha, Punjab and Rajasthan have already taken this step.
Around 64 activists from the BJP youth wing were apprehended for their protest outside the Eden Gardens demanding the removal of photographs from the iconic Eden Gardens wall, which contain Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and Wasim Akram’s photos amongst others in the non-public area.
This has been the norm since the terror attack in Pulwama, Kashmir, that took the lives of over 40 CRPF jawans and Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad soon claimed the responsibility. Former and current cricketers have called for severing all ties with the neighbouring country and boycotting everything that’s from Pakistan.
Ganguly was one of the endorsers of the movement and had asked India not to play Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup stating that it wouldn’t have a big impact in the team’s campaign. When asked about his decision about removing the photographs, he said, “We are working on it. There will be a decision soon," reported PTI.
Sachin Tendulkar’s statement about not forfeiting Pakistan’s match in the World Cup and instead ensuring two points in the showpiece event to continue their unbeaten record over the arch-rivals has received a lot of flak. However, Ganguly stated that they both wanted similar things when it came to the issue.
"He wants two points against Pakistan, I want the World Cup so...he wants two points I want the World Cup. Whichever way you look at it," said Ganguly, reacting to Tendulkar's comments.
