We’re not losing consecutive games, assures Krunal Pandya

Krunal Pandya has stated that India haven’t lost momentum following their loss to Australia in Visakhapatnam in the first T20I and wouldn’t lose two games in a row. The all-rounder has also stressed on the presence of more options for bowling although agreeing that whatever available was enough.

India succumbed to one of their most heart-breaking defeats in recent times as Umesh Yadav failed to defend 14 runs in the last over of the game after India could post a meek target of 126 runs batting first. However, the Men in Blue would be getting a chance at redemption on Wednesday itself and Pandya sounded more than confident about levelling the series.

“It was a great bowling effort. Everyone chipped in and we almost defended the low total. We just have to be more cautious about our batting,” said Pandya reported Scroll.

“Tomorrow is a very important game as we are 0-1 down but I would not say that we have lost momentum. We lost the other night but we are not losing consecutive games. I am sure we will do well tomorrow,” he said.

The elder Pandya was introduced into the scheme of things in November last year against the Aussies. And he has impressed one in the 10 matches that he has played, taking 11 wickets at 30.00 with his best figures of 4/36 coming in Sydney. Even last Sunday, Pandya was the second best bowler after Jasprit Bumrah although he faltered with the bat.

Pandya’s fluctuating batting position has limited him to just 70 runs at 23.33 from 10 matches, however, he revealed that he wasn’t much concerned with it at the moment. “Honestly, I am not thinking about where I want to bat. I am just focused on what is in my hands irrespective of the situation. I want to contribute with both bat and ball.”

Team selection was definitely one of the issues for India last match with the side going with five specialist bowlers and three wicket-keeper batsmen. Consequently, no one apart from KL Rahul, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli could reach double figures. While improving the batting was a definite concern, Pandya also stressed on the importance of having extra bowling options.

“All the five bowlers, who played are quality bowlers. All are match winners on a given day. If you have options it is good but whatever is there we are fine with that.”
