After Umesh Yadav went for 14 runs in the final over in the first T20I against the Aussies, Sunil Gavaskar has mentioned that the pacer is not convincing in white-ball cricket. The former India opener has also added that India leaked runs by going into the game with two keepers in the outfield.

The first T20I between India and Australia in Vizag went all down to the wire with the Aussies winning the game in the last ball of the match with three wickets in hand. The visitors needed 14 runs to win off the last six balls which were bowled by Yadav. The Vidarbha pacer ended the evening with figures of 0/35 in the four overs that he bowled in the first game of the series. Meanwhile, Gavaskar has come out to criticise Umesh saying that in spite of his experience he hasn’t looked convincing in limited-overs cricket for India.

“Umesh Yadav, despite being around for such a long time, is not convincing as a white-ball bowler, so India could well do with a replacement for him,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for TOI.

KL Rahul made a comeback into the Indian team with a fifty and provided India a solid start in the first game. Gavaskar is of the opinion that Rahul’s return is a big positive for the side and also praised debutant Mayank Markande. India also went into the game with three keepers – Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni, Gavaskar has underlined the fact that India leaked runs in the outfield with two wicketkeepers being there while fielding.

“The plus point for India is Rahul’s return to form and Markande showing good temperament under pressure. The fielding though with two wicketkeepers in the outfield meant that the extra run was always on for the Australians. India would do well to bring Dhawan back and have Rahul at No.4,” the former opener explained.

“India lost the T20 series in New Zealand with the batting letting them down and unless the top-order fires, they could lose this one too.”
